PREPARATION & AFTERCARE
PREPARATION IS A MUST!
Make the most of your at home tanning experience by following Gorgeous Glow’s simple advice ‘the golden rules’ to ensuring your Spray Tan lasts between 5-10 days!
Step 1: The day before your Tan
A pre-tan pampering session is essential if you want to achieve a flawless, long lasting, patch free tan – this should include:
De-fluffing – Yes Ladies, its imperative to engage in hair removal the day before your tan. This will ensure your tan looks smooth and gorgeous – if shaving this can be done the night before (although 48 hours before is best), if you use a razor that has a moisturising strip please ensure you rinse thoroughly as this can act as a barrier to the spray tan solution.

If waxing this needs to be done ideally 48 hours prior to your tan, otherwise a dotting effect may occur.
Exfoliation – indulge in full-body exfoliation to remove lingering dead skin build-up. Make sure you pay particular attention to your hands, feet, elbows and knees – this will ensure your tan looks smooth, even, radiant and lasts longer. We recommend you avoid using an oil based exfoliator.
Moisturise – after exfoliation moisturise all areas, but this will need to be removed before tanning.
Paint nails and toenails – especially if they are acrylics or similar.
Spoil Yourself – why not embrace this time out by hopping in the bath with a few scented candles and a glass of your favourite tipple!
N.B. Refrain from eyelash / eyebrow tinting – allow 24/48 hours to pass as this may react with the DHA in the tanning solution.
Step 2: On the Day
On the day of your session be completely free of moisturiser, make-up, deodorant and perfume. Avoid moisturising shower gel such as Dove, Olay or Imperial Leather as they act as a barrier to the spray tan solution.

Remove all jewellery and contact lenses.

When you are ready it is time to get tanned! We advise removing contact lenses before the tan as they may become stained and contaminated, please remove jewellery too.
Once you have decided what you want to wear to be sprayed in, bikini, old knickers and/or bra, or we can provide disposable undies - you will be asked to step into the tanning booth and within 10 minutes, you will be subtly transformed into a bronzed goddess, leaving you to step out looking healthy, natural and glowing!

I have done literally thousands of spray tans so, although easy to say, please do not feel embarrassed - no matter what shape or size you are / we are all beautiful. The majority of my clients like an all over tan, so please don't worry, topless, completely naked, whatever is best for you!
Step 3: After your Tan
After a few minutes drying time you’ll be ready to pop your clothes back on.
Gorgeous Glow recommends choosing something dark and loose – you’ll be at home after all, so anything goes – dressing gown, P.J’s, or just mooch about in your joggers – just one of the blissful benefits of an ‘at home’ tanning experience!

Your tan will take around 8 hours to develop (2-4 for Express tans) during which time your skin will turn quite dark – don’t panic!!! This is completely normal and is called the guide colour, when you shower this will wash away to reveal your natural looking tan underneath. You must follow these guidelines after your session:

Avoid contact with water. (use wipes to wash hands – remember this after going to the loo)!

Have dark loose fitting clothing to put on after your session and remember that any straps or waistbands can leave marks in your tan.

Avoid tight fitting boots or shoes as these will rub off your tan, flip flops are best.

Avoid exercise or any activity that will make you sweat as this will cause patchiness.

Drink beverages through a straw to avoid taking the tan off your top lip.

Do not apply any moisturisers or make-up while your tan is developing.
Touching your skin during the development time as this will stain your hands and cannot be easily removed. The colour you see directly after the application of your Spray Tan is only a guide colour and NOT the finished colour.
When you have your first shower, either after the full 8 hours development time or in the morning if you have slept with the guide colour on, you will see the guide colour running off your skin and only then will the true colour of your tan be revealed!

This very first shower should always be a simple warm water rinse! Yup, that's right, no soap, body wash, hair washing, shaving or scrubbing. If you use soap before the 24-hour mark, you will stop the development of the spray tan, and will not achieve the best results.

Step 4: Maintaining your Tan
To keep your tan looking gorgeous you will need to:-
1. Avoid long hot baths or showers, a quick warm shower is best. Use mild shower products such as Sanex, Simple or Baby shower gel, avoid any cirtrus ingredients or overly moisturing shower gel such as Dove, Olay or Imperial Leather.
2. After a shower always pat your skin dry with a towel, do not rub.
3. Moisturise daily, this will prolong your tan and keep it looking nice and fresh! Use oil free products, anything oily or greasy will cause your tan to fade. Baby lotion, E45 or Vaseline Intensive Care are all non greasy.
4. After about the 4th day and then every other day after, very gently exfoliate your skin, this will help to even out your tan again and ensure even fading.

5. Last but not least ENJOY YOUR LOVELY NATURAL LOOKING TAN! Please remember that your tan does not have any SPF factor and you should wear sun protection as usual.
If you are going away, please note: Chlorine acts as a bleach and can affect the fade of the tan. Sun protection oil will affect the tan as oil can break down the tan.

* Please note if you are pregnant you cannot get a spray tan during your first trimester, any time after this is completely fine.
* Also if you are on or have recently been on a course of antibiotics/penicillin please inform your therapist as certain medications can affect the outcome of your tan.
